Abstract

Background: Hypercholesterolaemia is a high level of cholesterol in the blood, which is one of the factors contributing to non-communicable diseases. Hypercholesterolaemia can occur if a person's diet contains a lot of fatty foods. Based on survey results from vital sign examinations and self-reported medical histories, it was found that the majority of residents in Nguter RT.02 RW 04 experience joint pain, high cholesterol, hypertension, and obesity. Therefore, it is important to conduct community service activities on the impact of dietary patterns on cholesterol levels in the body.
Community service partners: This community service was carried out in Nguter RT. 02 RW.04 Sukoharjo.
Methods: Public health education using leaflets and simulations of types of food, side dishes, vegetables, and snacks that are highly recommended in the prevention of hypercholesterolemia to prevent metabolic and cardiovascular diseases.  
Results: Cholesterol level tests conducted before the health education session revealed that the majority of the community, 12 people (60%), had hypercholesterolaemia. After the health education session, the majority of the community, 15 people (75%), had normal cholesterol levels. The average cholesterol level measurement before the health education was 199.5 mg/dl (hypercholesterolemia) and afterwards it decreased to 188 mg/dl (normal). The average cholesterol level decreased by 11.5 mg/dl.
Conclusion: The results indicate that one factor that can lower blood cholesterol levels in the body is an individual's good knowledge of the effect of diet on cholesterol levels in the body.
